My Essential Must-Have and Simple Beauty Routine.

During times like these, it might seem like a beauty regime may not be the most important thing in the world. While that may be true, the world is changing into something completely foreign and unknown by the hour and the simplicity in skin care and a good beauty routine may just be one of the things keeping some of us sane for a small part of our day. At least for me, it does. There is nothing like a blank canvas that is ready to be made into a brilliant piece of art!

SKINCARE.

Does anyone else feel like they have this amazing skin care routine for weeks on end and then you miss ONE DAY and wake up with a blemish to haunt you for it? It makes me wonder; is my skin naturally pimply and textured and these products are saving me from it? Or is this a marketing scheme that has made my skin dependant on these products and I’d be fine without them? I guess I’ll never know because I am physically unable to sleep without feeling like a freshly glazed donut in serums and moisturizer.

In the morning, I like to wash my face with a plain bar of dove soap. Skin Pro’s – don’t come at me for this because I saw a Tik Tok (obviously a trusting and verified source, duh.) that Dove bar soap is clean and lightweight which is why it’s recommended to use for fresh tattoos and new piercings. My thought process to trusting this was, if an “open wound” like a piercing or tattoo can heal and be properly cleansed from Dove bar soap, what harm could it do to clean my face? After brushing my teeth, I use a lip scrub to give my lips a good prep and prime, because no body likes crusty lips. After I’m done in the bathroom, I prep my skin with one of my favourite gel moisturizers and let it completely dry and absorb into my skin. I love applying my primer for make-up when my moisturizer is drying and slightly sticky. This combo makes or breaks my make-up lasting throughout the day, especially now that we wear a mask everywhere.

Skip to bedtime, this is where sh*t gets intense so buckle up kids. There are few really good face washes I absolutely love enough to purchase multiple times: Clayton Shagal Milk Cleaner when my skin is feeling dry, KylieSkin Foaming Face Wash if I’m wearing a full face of make-up and need heavy duty cleansing without stripping my skin of its natural oils, and back to the Dove Bar Soap from any local drugstore if it’s just a regular and plain Jane bedtime cleanse. I carefully pat my skin dry just enough that it’s not dripping but definitly damp because moisturizer works alot better that way. I struggle with hormonal acne due to a variety of reasons, so when I am struggling with breakouts, I use an OXY Acne Medication Cleansing Pad over the affected area just to make sure any dirt and oils are thoroughly wiped. I apply my moisturizer liberally. Lastly, I do this step if I feel that it’s necessary and it’s a controversial one for sure. A reminder that this is just what personally works for me and all skin types are different and require lots of trial and error! When my skin is recovering from a break out and there is scabbing or dry skin around that area, I apply a thin layer of Vaseline. It’s healing and I find it super helpful and effective by the time I wake up in the morning.

You can use this product on wet or dry hair, but I personally like to use it as a styling cream when I’m finished blow drying because it makes my ends look healthy and soft.

Global Keratin Serum

$30

This product is perfect for taming down fly-aways and frizziness when you’re done styling. Start with applying to the ends and spreading the remainder of product all over. Bonus: it smells amazing!

Living Proof Full Shampoo and Conditioner

$38-$78 each

This is definitely on the higher end of Shampoo and Conditioners, but it is so worth it. These products are light, gentle and effective. I noticed an immediate difference in my hair and scalp when I started using them and don’t ever want to go back!

Shea Moisture Deep Treatment Masque

$12

For a drug store product and price, the quality and results are totally high end. I started using this mask when my hair felt dry and brittle and within 2 uses I was hooked! I use it about once a week instead of conditioner during my wash. I gently towel dry my hair after shampooing, and apply it everywhere with a comb leaving it in for about 5-10 minutes before thoroughly rinsing.

3 Skin Care Products I Would Literally Die Without.

Farmacy Daily Greens Oil-Free Gel Moisturizer

$62 and worth every penny. This moisturizer is seriously the sh*t and did not come to play. It cleared up my face of any blemishes, texture, and uneveness in less than a week. I only put it on at night, and I put it on with a brush – a dab on my forehead, each cheek, nose and chin. I rub it in circles until it starts to feel sticky.

CeraVe Daily Moisturizing Lotion for Normal to Dry Skin

WILL START OFF BY SAYING ~obviously Tik Tok made me buy it~ and I do not regret it! I use it before applying primer in the morning, and it makes my makeup application so smooth + keeps my skin hydrated all day long.

Elemis Superfood Cica Calm Hydration Juice

$62 and HOLY F*CK this damn serum changed my LIFE! It’s 75% made up of organic Aloe and vitamins, so you already know it’s mega hydrating and soothing. It made my skin texture improve within days to a more balanced, and calm complexion.
